Okay, to start off, I'll be honest, I wasn't really all that motivated to write anything the last few days, even when I had an idea for something to write.
The mood strikes me now though, so I feel it best to take advantage of this.
I've decided to do a bit of a rant about phrases and sayings. Specifically these internet ones. "That awkward moment when", or "my life is now complete".
People really need to think about what they say before they say it. Yes, it's pretty damn awkward when you see your grandmother looking at the XXX section of a video store. We don't need a caption of it.
But "my life is complete?" You know what that means? If your life was complete, everything past that would be a waste of your time and it would be pointless living. People whose life is REALLY complete are the ones on their dying breath. But people talk without realising what they're saying, spouting useless phrases because it's "what everyone else says".
Ah, I can see in the back of your mind. "You're an old man", "you're making a big deal of this," "it's not that bad/completely harmless". Maybe I am making a bit of a deal from this, but shouldn't humanity be able to think for themselves? How can we advance and progress when half the developed world is busy being the same as everyone else? We've been doing it for centuries- believing whole-heartedly what one person has said without question. Why should we? Society doesn't progress until we start asking questions. And we won't ask questions if we continue to believe in crap like these quotes.
It seems like I've gone off track, but I haven't really. My point wasn't so much "people have stupid phrases" as "people believe stupid things and this needs to change". Use your own minds, people! You don't have to quote someone else if you can come up with your own intelligent lines. And believe me, anyone is capable of intelligence.
So what have we learned?
-People have a tendency to say things they don't mean
-This is because they prefer to remember quotes everyone is using rather than use their own
-This limits progress as nobody tries to think of anything new
-People need to change in order to progress
That about sums up my argument if you felt the evenly-spaced paragraphs were too long. If you think everything I'm saying now and you want to completely ignore it and dismiss me as a raving lunatic, please, at least think on this- when you talk every day, or type, text, or whatever. How many of those phrases are from your own thoughts, and how many are determined by the society you live in?
